Confirmed – Ozil pens new three-year deal

Arsenal Banter brings you latest update on Arsenal news from top media sites like Daily Mail, Metro, The Express, The Independent, The Telegraph, SkySports and so on.

Manchester United could miss out on Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil should Borussia Dortmund striker leave Germany for the Emirates. According to Bild, the German playmaker will pen a new deal for the Gunners upon the arrival of Aubameyang, which will not sit well with United.

Jose Mourinho has been targeting the out-of-contract midfielder, who joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in 2013 for a while now. Ozil signed a five-year-deal, worth £7m-per-annum (£137k-per-week) with the Gunners at the time of his £42.4m transfer, and still hadn’t agreed to an extension with his contract running out this summer.

However, it appears he’s willing to commit if Arsenal bolsters their attacking options with the Gabon international, who has registered 141 goals in 213 games for Dortmund. Manchester United had been heavily linked with Ozil in the previous weeks, with reports suggesting the German would move to Old Trafford as a free agent in the summer.

Nevertheless, it’s good news for Arsenal but bad news for United. Ozil is one of the best playmakers in the world, and the chance to acquire such a talent on a free transfer could have been a game-changer.

United will no doubt be still delighted to have landed Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal on a swap deal this month, but Ozil’s creativity could have given the Red Devils’ strong attack real ammunition.
