All Smiles!!! Nacho Monreal pens down three year deal with Arsenal at Emirates

Arsenal Banter brings you latest update on Arsenal news from top media sites like Daily Mail, Metro, The Express, The Independent, The Telegraph, SkySports and so on.

Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal has revealed that dialogue between him and the club has started over extending his contract beyond the end of the season.

Monreal, who joined Arsenal from Malaga for £10million in 2013, is entering the final months of his deal with his contract set to expire in June.

The 33-year-old has established himself as Arsenal’s first-choice left-back despite competition from Kieran Gibbs, now of West Brom and Sead Kolasinac, since his arrival.

Monreal would have no shortage of suitors if he were available on a free but he is adamant that he wants to remain at the Emirates as he is ‘happy’ at the club. ‘At the moment we are talking with the club. I’ve always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal,’ Monreal said.

‘I came six years ago. I have a good relationship with them. We are in contact in any moment so don’t worry about that. I am happy here. That is the most important thing.’

After missing Arsenal’s opening day defeat to Manchester City with a minor knee injury, Monreal has regained his place in the Arsenal side under new manager Unai Emery.

He has played every minute of Arsenal’s last three fixtures and even got on the scoresheet in the 3-1 victory over West Ham.

Monreal has racked up 215 appearances for Arsenal since his move from Malaga – more than any other club in his career – and has become a key member of the Arsenal side.

Emery signed 34-year-old Stephan Lichsteiner and 30-year-old Sokratis Papastathopolous in the summer and a new deal for Monreal would further reflect his willingness to build around experienced players in the early days of his Arsenal tenure.

As well as Monreal, Petr Cech, Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck and Lichsteiner are all entering the final 12 months of their contracts at Arsenal.
