The winter transfer window is shut down, and Arsenal is one of the clubs that did not make any movements. Arsenal’s silence in January was criticised by the fans in an angry tone. The Gunners just had rumours with some players like Dusan Vlahovic. The next player who they were in talks with was Alexander Isak. There were strong reports that the club would sign him in January after losing the race with Juventus to sign Vlahovic.
Arsenal should make their squad more potent as they lost Aubameyang as a free agent, and there are chances that Alexandre Lacazette will leave the club in June for free. Alexandre Lacazette is wanted back at Lyon when he hits free agency in the summer, with Arsenal unlikely to offer a new contract to the 30-year-old France international.
The Gunners have to start looking to reinforce their attack as they need young guns in the next season.
One of those options to seriously look upon is Alexander Isak. He can be the next striker that the Gunners have been searching for. He has the attributes that Mikel Arteta needs as a No.9. The main reason why Arsenal did not sign him was because of his release clause. Arsenal should not think twice about paying the release clause in the summer. They should buy him at any cost. Because, if the top teams cannot sign Erling Haaland, then they will turn their eyes to Isak as he can also be a great striker for any team.
Isak has been one of the prospects in European football. He started his professional career with AIK in 2016. Isak represented Borussia Dortmund and Willem II before signing with Real Sociedad in 2019. A full Swedish international since 2017, he has won more than 30 caps for his country and represented the side at UEFA Euro 2020. He is the youngest ever goalscorer for both AIK and the Sweden national team.
He scored his first competitive goal for Dortmund in a 2017–18 DFB-Pokal second-round win against FC Magdeburg on October 24 2017, scoring the second goal in a 5–0 win.
After having a loan spell with Willem II, Isak signed a five-year deal with Real Sociedad. Dortmund kept a clause stating that the German club could have a buyback if necessary in that deal. But around six months ago, that clause was removed by Dortmund.
Arsenal can easily lure the Swedish striker if they have to. They should be ready to splash the money before other teams start to eye him. If Haaland departs, then Dortmund will also try to sign him as a replacement. So, the Gunners should come up with a deal like a pre-agreement even before the summer transfer window opens.
