Who is Alexandre Lacazette?
Alexandre Lacazette is a French striker who plays for the English giants Arsenal. The 30-year-old centre-forward was born on 28 May 1991 in France.
Lacazette began his senior career with Ligue 1 club, Lyon, in 2010, at age just 19.
Initially, a wide attacker, France international was converted into a striker, and finished as Ligue 1 top goalscorer and won Ligue 1 Player of the Year in the 2014–15 season.
In summer 2017, Alexandre signed a reported five-year deal for Arsenal for a record fee.
The French club disclosed that the fee was an initial €53m. In summer 2017, the French striker played his debut match for Arsenal in the 2017 FA Community Shield with Chelsea.
This win constituted his first trophy at the London club. In August, Lacazette played his debut match in the Premier League with Leicester and scored after just 94 seconds to give Arsenal a 1–0 lead in an eventual 4–3 win.
In May 2019, the French centre-forward was voted by the London club supporters as Arsenal’s player of the season.
In summer 2020, Alexandre was selected to start in the FA Cup final game with Chelsea, as Arsenal won their 14th FA Cup title. In April, Lacazette scored his 50th Premier League goal in a 3-0 win against Sheffield United.
What is Alexandre Lacazette’s international career like?
The 30-year-old striker has played for all of France’s national youth teams, beginning with the U16 side playing his debut match in Les Bleus’ 2–0 victory over Cameroon in April 2007 at the Montaigu competition.
Lacazette was a crucial contributor to France’s victory in the 2010 UEFA European U19 Championship, where the striker scored the match-winning goal in the final with Spain. Lacazette has recorded three goals in 16 matches for Les Bleus.
In May 2013, the French centre-forward received his first call-up to the senior side following the withdrawal of Jeremy Menez through injury.
Alexandre played his debut match in June as a 58th-minute substitute for Olivier Giroud in a 0–1 friendly defeat with Uruguay at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo.
Lacazette scored his first international goal in March 2015, opening a 2–0 friendly win against Denmark at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Etienne.
During the match, the French centre-forward was booed by some of the local supporters due to their rivalry with Lyon.
In November 2017, Lacazette scored a brace for France during a friendly away to Germany in an eventual 2–2 draw. In May 2018, Alexandre was named on the standby list for the 23-man France squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
