Who is Thomas Partey?
Thomas Teye Partey is a Ghanaian midfielder who plays at the Premier League club Arsenal.
He began his career in his homeland with FC Odometah and then joined the youth team of the La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid in 2011.
In 2012/13, the player was promoted to Los Rojbilancos’ second team, where Thomas appeared in 33 matches in Segunda Division B and netted four goals.
Later he shipped out on loan to relegated RCD Mallorca for the 2013/14 term, scoring five goals in 37 outings. He spent the 2014/15 campaign on loan in La Liga at UD Almeria, for whom he scored four goals in 31 matches.
Partey returned to Diego Simeone’s side for the 2015/16 season and became a part of the senior team squad under the Argentine tactician.
Since the start of his professional career in 2012 where Thomas was playing for Atletico Madrid B, the midfielder has played in a total of 307 matches across all competitions as of 6 March 2021.
He has managed to net 29 goals during his career thus far and pick up 15 assists. Thomas also got booked 83 times.
After multiple productive seasons, at the beginning of October 2020, Thomas moved to the Gunners in the PL shortly before the end of the transfer market, using his €50m exit clause, which made Partey the most expensive Ghanaian footballer of all time, breaking former Chelsea star Michael Essien’s record.
What is Thomas’ international career looks like?
Thomas was called up to his country’s national team for the first time in the summer of 2016, where Partey played his first official match at the international level for Ghana on 5 June 2016, in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match versus Mauritius.
The next year, he netted a hat-trick against the Republic of the Congo in the 2018 World Cup qualifying match and also took part with Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations.
What are his main achievements at club and international level?
During his club career, the Gunners man has won the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League and 2018/19 UEFA Super Cup with the La Liga side.
On the international level, thus far the player has never won any awards or titles with the Ghanaian national team.
He has also managed to claim the Ghana Player of the Year award in 2018 and 2019 and the 2018 CAF Team of the Year award.
